The truism that people require extraordinary evidence to believe extraordinary claims is just wrong. People simply don't work that way when it comes to most of what we believe because of how we believe. People need to work from internalized first draft maps that are nested within community maps. These maps are always being recalibrated via the data they receive, but the data is also always filtered by maps. This is because the world is simply too large. Even the discernment of an "event" is a product of the data/map/filter dynamic to separate it from the flow of everything by relevance realization according to the maps already being used. Data itself is filtered by these maps.

The claim is simply a product of the imagined monarchical vision where we view the world from no-where and see things "as they are" which is something that human beings imagine they do but really can't.

The Same Sex Marriage in the CRC continues to rumble forward likely towards a split in the church. While Progressives major in stories of suffering and pain Conservatives like to talk about "Reformed Hermeneutics". They assert that the issue isn't isolated to this particular issue but it with the pattern of Scripture reading. I think they have a point. How we read the Bible continues to evolve and it is a standard point with Progressive Evangelicals. Peter Enns, former professor of Old Testament was featured on the Youtube Channel @God is Grey to discuss his book "How the Bible Actually Works".

While Pete Enns and I may agree on a number of things I suspect the sum total of these assumptions about the Bible sort of blur it for people. For those who have been deeply formed by a more orderly sub-culture, who might wish to deviate in a few ways, this feels like a relief from tyranny. But what will be the cumulative impact of these changes as generations continue?

I find the work of @Jonathan Pageau to actually be anticipating the impact of this blur further in. He notes patterns and subtly suggest how to navigate with these patterns. It's both a re-enchantment move AND a re-instantiation of the Biblical world in the lives of those who listen.

There is often an interesting combination of anger and sadness about them with respect to their former community. Jordan was asked for a critique of Jung, but along the way he gave a rather nice observations from his practice regarding the manner in which personality profiles intersect with religion.

I think about the fact that I can't remember him recommending therapy very often while he often talks about how he would treat someone. Is this part or the reason for his reluctance to participate in church?
