Richard Rohlin's observation to Jonathan Pageau about the relationship between fantasy and the medieval world continued to stick in my mind. This has been haunting me while watching both Vikings and The Last Kingdom and the reason I liked one more than the other was articulated by Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook in their podcast 'The Rest is History".

Pentecost Sunday for Christians is the day Christians memorialize the coming of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost is a high voltage New Testament junction box of symbolic connections but one of them I've never explored is how it is New Sinai. The law was meant to form the people of God in the desert. The gift of the Holy Spirit is to shape the people of God in the last days as prophesied by the prophet Joel.

Tom Holland had a tweet advertising the upcoming World Cup of Ancient gods on his "The Rest is History" podcast. I'm excited. But it will prompt in crunchy believers a pause. What are we to do with these "gods"? Are they today's Super Heroes? What were they?

This opens the door to the much asked for clarification of God #1 and God #2. I'm regularly asked for a fuller explanation of these two terms. Am I a polytheist? Do they map onto the Christian Trinity?

They have always been bins on my theological work bench to try to make sense of what has happened in the West, and to try to figure out why @Jordan B Peterson has been a more effective evangelist than many Christians including myself. Jordan Peterson's God (God #1) triggers a lot of "Natural Law" enthusiasts in the American religions and non-church-going conservative ecosystem which prompted Bionic Mosquito to drop me a note. Bionic Mosquito wrote me a helpful email asking about my hesitant engagement with "Natural Law". I don't have a problem with what the phrase "Natural Law" wishes to signify, but I think the term is embedded in a way that doesn't work. https://bionicmosquito.blogspot.com/2020/08/natural-law-sola-scriptura.html

After this dropped I immediately started getting requests for a commentary on this. Peterson and Fry were teamed together at the Munk debates on political correctness but in many ways Fry is a fearsome apologist for atheism, far better informed than the other celebrity atheists especially on the literary front. It made for a good conversation.
